Looking for an active, educational, and fun-filled experience for your school group? Chimera Climbing Tunbridge Wells offers tailored indoor bouldering sessions for students of all ages and abilities. Our purpose-built climbing centre and expert coaching staff provide a safe and inspiring environment for young climbers to learn, grow and thrive.

What is Indoor Bouldering?

Bouldering is a form of climbing done at low heights without ropes, over cushioned safety mats.

It’s accessible to all, requires no special equipment, and challenges both the body and mind. Routes—known as “problems”—are set using different coloured holds, ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced.

This fast-growing sport improves:

  • Strength and flexibility
  • Balance and coordination
  • Problem-solving and focus
  • Confidence and self-esteem

And since its Olympic debut in 2020, bouldering has become a firm favourite in schools nationwide.

Physical & Mental Health Benefits

Bouldering offers a full-body workout and is now recognised by the NHS as a beneficial activity for children and teenagers.

Regular climbing can help:

  • Build physical strength and spatial awareness
  • Boost mental well-being, reduce anxiety and stress
  • Promote resilience, perseverance, and independence

Climbing is also ideal for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), offering a quieter alternative to traditional team sports.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Inclusion

We’re proud to provide a welcoming space for all learners.

Our climbing sessions support:

  • Motor skills and balance
  • Emotional regulation and anxiety reduction
  • Confidence through goal-setting and achievement
  • Social interaction in a calm, encouraging setting

Climbing for Children with ADHD

Bouldering is especially beneficial for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The sport naturally channels energy into focused movement and problem-solving, helping climbers stay engaged in the moment. Each climb presents a new challenge, encouraging concentration, planning and self-regulation.

Benefits of climbing for children with ADHD include:

  • Improved focus and attention span
  • Better impulse control through structured physical activity
  • Opportunities for goal setting and achievement
  • Reduced restlessness and anxiety
  • Increased confidence through independent progress

The supportive and non-competitive nature of bouldering helps build self-esteem and encourages positive social interaction.

Our team provides:

  • One-to-one or group instruction
  • Roped climbing and bouldering training
  • Skill development: rope work, belaying, climbing techniques
  • Guidance to meet exam board requirements

We recommend a minimum of 6 months of regular sessions to prepare for assessments. Students may also work towards unsupervised climber status, pending safety checks and coach sign-off.
